Research Has Shown That…

“Noticeably younger looking after three weeks” or “80% less wrinkles”. Everyone knows these claims and fortunately most people don’t take them too seriously. I’ve written before about this in my blog, that you cannot get rid of wrinkles with the freely available so called ‘over the counter’ products. I also described what beauty products can do for your skin. But how can cosmetics manufacturers come with these research findings? There are pages and pages to write about this.

A trick

A frequently used trick is to not let the participants use any cosmetic products at all for a certain period of time before the start of the research testing. This makes the skin become more dry. Then if you do start using products again for the investigation the lines on your face naturally become less prominent. This has nothing to do with reducing the real wrinkles but instead the dry lines. The fine lines on your face become less noticeable, but this is based primarily on the hydration of your skin: the skin is less dry and because of this less wrinkles are seen. This effect is temporary and stops if you stop using creams.

So when you see “80% less wrinkles” written, that probably means that 80% of the people that were given the cream to use could see a difference. That need only for that matter be an improvement of 1%.

To be continued…

and about the meaning of a product which has been ‘dermatologically tested’.
