So much choice…. Do you often find yourself standing in front of the shelf in the pharmacy deliberating about which bottle or jar to buy? My top tip? Check the ingredients list on the product. Because although good ingredients in your skincare do not necessarily ensure perfect skin, poor ingredients will guarantee poor skin. Now I am aware that, for many, an ingredients list can look like gobbledygook. The goods news is: I know a couple of tricks that will guide you, in just a few steps, towards a good quality product.
I’ve encountered some interesting things about melasma. A stubborn and unpleasant skin condition, perhaps better known as pregnancy mask. I was wondering to what extent food may play a part in this pigment disorder as well. I will say though, ‘unfortunately there is still a lot that we don’t know’. (more…)
I was very interested in your ideas and thoughts about vegan products. So that’s why I put the statement on my Facebook and Instagram accounts, ‘It is important to me that a product is vegan’. As I had expected, many readers and followers do think that this is very important. Vegan isn’t an absolute must for everyone though. And not everyone thinks about it in cosmetic products. Those people did write to say that they are becoming increasingly aware about the environment and the use of animals though. (more…)
There has been a lot of fuss lately about sun creams. Various shores, such as Hawaii and Bonaire, have announced a ban on the use of sun creams that would damage coral and now everyone wants, of course, to know which creams are coral friendly. I think it is worth talking some more about this. Because I would mind if, all of a sudden, we decide not to apply any sun cream and sunbathe without any protection.
This still remains an anxious moment every time. When a new product, after a long time tweaking and fine tuning, actually roles off the production line. Around three years ago, I began to think about developing a body cream. As, in fact, with all my products, it came about because I needed it myself. I could still find mild, fragrance free products for the body, but trying to find a cream or lotion with a balanced combination of enough antioxidants, soothing and barrier repairing substances seemed to be like trying to find the proverbial needle in the haystack. And, so, I decided to develop my own product with a firm wish list. I knew what I wanted, but could that be made…?
Last week I had a conversation with the well-known photographer Jimmy Nelson. Not only am I a big fan of his, but I have also taken inspiration from him where he has connected with other cultures and learned about their knowledge and wisdom. In my case this is in the field of skin care and the treatment of skin problems. For more and more of that knowledge is in danger of becoming lost through globalisation…
That frown line on your forehead? The crow’s feet around your eyes or the sagging skin on your cheeks? No, sadly you can’t wipe those away. Really. That doesn’t mean, however, that skincare products won’t be able to make your skin look younger. It requires some persistence but it really is possible. And did you know that pigmentation spots and dull sallow skin, in particular, make you look older?
I am often asked if there are more interesting discoveries in the field of skin. And although magazines would lead us to believe that the latest ingredients and equipment can make you look ten years younger, there is little news to tell. Having said that, I am closely following a development which I think is pretty revolutionary. And that is the research into the role the intestines play in relation to the skin. It is, in fact, an old principle with a new approach, many doctors are not yet applying it and more research is still required for all the pieces in the puzzle to fall into place. I would still, however, like to share some of these insights with you, because I know that your skin (and your health) can benefit tremendously from them. (more…)
