This still remains an anxious moment every time. When a new product, after a long time tweaking and fine tuning, actually roles off the production line. Around three years ago, I began to think about developing a body cream. As, in fact, with all my products, it came about because I needed it myself. I could still find mild, fragrance free products for the body, but trying to find a cream or lotion with a balanced combination of enough antioxidants, soothing and barrier repairing substances seemed to be like trying to find the proverbial needle in the haystack. And, so, I decided to develop my own product with a firm wish list. I knew what I wanted, but could that be made…?
I can imagine only too well that it can make you break out in a sweat when trying to quickly scan through hundreds of ingredients lists whilst a sales assistant, full of well intended but not always useful advice, is distracting you. I am going to give you a few tips which will ensure that, in no time (well, before closing time, at least), you have come away from the shop with a fine product, or better still a tester. For convenience we are going to begin with the face cream; the Cleanser, Toner, Exfoliant and sun protection cream will follow soon…..
Last month, on one of the warmest days of the year, I received a visit from a photographer who came to take photos for the cover of the Reaal Insurance magazine. The theme was Autumn and I had to amend my clothes choice to fit in with this!
Well scrubbed; that’s how we like to be in the Netherlands! A clean house, bright whites, sparkling teeth and crystal clean tableware. And our skin doesn’t escape our cleaning obsession either…. The average family gets through a good deal of soap daily. But is all that soap so good for your skin?
Last week my children and I went to the new Smurf film. Some quality time with the family without thinking about work, so I thought. Until I saw that the main character was played by a Cruella type; this time without dalmations but with her own cosmetics line and factory. “Hey mum, that’s like you” was the not too subtle comment from my kids. I had to agree with them! After this remark and the 3D screen filled with explosions, clouds of green smoke and bubbling cauldrons the relaxation was long gone. I could only think about the new batch of products which were going to be produced the following week. This even carried on throughout the night….
The cosmetic industry is, with an annual turnover of around 220 billion dollars, one of the biggest in the world! And it is still growing. I wrote two years ago that the “average woman” uses around 9 products a day, it currently stands at 12. I am noticing though that people have lost their faith in the effectiveness of cosmetic products. It’s a pity, because despite my often critical comments, I believe more than ever in the possibilities of cosmetic products. Searching for your wonder cream…
