Sleeping Beauty I say to myself time and time again; eat healthily, exercise more and early nights. As far as exercise is concerned, I’ve given up getting yet another fitness club membership.
Do you suffer during the summer months from varying dark or light patches on your neck, chest and/or back? And do they resemble pigmentation spots which disappear in the winter? Then you might have the condition Pityriasis Versicolor…
Good quality creams combined with an appropriate skincare routine make your skin radiant, smooth, strong and healthy. It can even help prevent ageing. This is pretty impressive, however, in my experience, this still isn’t enough for most women and men!
After an around the world trip with husband and kids (lucky me), I find myself sitting behind the computer once again. I couldn’t forget my work altogether on holiday though. Whether it was somewhere in the Jungle of Indonesia, the Australian Outback or a forgotten island in the South Pacific; there was nothing nicer than to quiz the locals about which ointments and plants they used to look after their skin. Just like Willy Wonka in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, I came home with piles of information but unfortunately, unlike Willy Wonka, I still haven’t found that “miracle remedy”! My children felt that they had. As after one of the locals had shown our children how to use the sap from the leaf of an Aloe Vera on a wound, no plant in the area was safe! If the Aloe Vera suddenly becomes an endangered plant I know nothing about it okay…
I was asked in June to do an interview for the ‘Financieele Dagblad Persoonlijk’ (financiel newspaper personal). This normally involves talking about products, ingredients or Uncover. But in this interview I was asked more personal questions (which, to be honest, I wasn’t expecting at all).
Salicylic Acid; sister of the already discussed Glycolic Acid, is a Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA) and is obtained from the bark of the Willow tree. Some time ago I wrote a blog about the effects of Glycolic Acid on the skin. As with Glycolic Acid, numerous independent scientific investigations have been carried out proving the effectiveness of this acid.
Redness, swelling, spots, itching and a burning sensation on the skin, these are just some symptoms of a sun allergy. Often people think they have a sun allergy, but a true sun allergy is relatively uncommon.
I’ve written endless blogs about sun protection cream. Even so, I still receive questions on a daily basis, asking advice on the best way to use sun protection products. A frequently asked question is whether you should apply it over the top of, or simply underneath, your day cream. Today this “burning” question will be answered!
My “Smear it all over” campaign is aimed at raising awareness to parents and children of the importance of sun protection. Unprotected exposure to ultra violet rays (UVR) during childhood increases the risk of developing skin cancer in later life.
Those who regularly read my blog know that my great passion is, not only skincare products but, in fact everything to do with keeping our skin healthy. And high up on the list is, of course, sun protection. Even though we haven’t seen much of the sun for a while and are desperate for some, it is good to first stop and think about sun protection. Because the sun can cause a lot of damage even in cloudy weather. We think that in the Netherlands it isn’t so dangerous, but hardly anywhere else (in Europe) has as much skin cancer as here. Furthermore, the numbers are increasing dramatically and we are seeing it in more and more younger people. Even though an estimated 90% of the skin cancer cases are preventable! Therefore: ‘Smear it All Over!!’
