Moisturiser (2)
After explaining yesterday what a Moisturiser does for your skin, I am now going to tell you about its use.
How do you use a Moisturizer?
Dry skin cannot do without a Moisturizer. If you have very dry skin it may be necessary to apply a Moisturizer several times during the day. More importantly, though, there should be no irritating substances in your product. Oily skin requires less Moisturizer. It can even be counter-productive by using one. Your face can become even more shiny and acne can worsen because the pores are being blocked. In this instance, use only a toner or water based serum which contains anti-oxidants, anti-irritating and anti-inflammatory ingredients. A Moisturizer can still be used on the more dry areas of the face (as it is almost always a combination skin).
The right choice for a Moisturizer depends on the condition of the skin and this does change from time to time. So it is important to know your skin well. Determining your skin type is not always easy; your skin type is often affected by the skincare products that you use. And so it is essential that you choose a product which does not contain irritating substances and does contain enough active ingredients (in adequate concentrations). Make sure the skin has been cleaned properly before applying the Moisturizer. The ingredients can then work far more effectively and are not hindered by the remains of grease or other dirt on the skin.
Be aware!
The price is not always a true reflection of the quality of a product. Next week I’ll go into this in more detail.
To summarize: a good moisturiser:
- can do nothing for wrinkles, unfortunately.
- can make (in most cases temporarily) fine lines less visible.
- as its main role, moisturizes, but also helps by protecting, soothing and is preventative with regard to wrinkles and pigmentation.
- should be supplemented during the day with a sun cream.
- can be counter-productive for oily skin.
- should be chosen according to your skin type!
