(Some) Good News for Rosacea Sufferers

antibioticsI have already written in my blog about Rosacea. A very annoying skin condition which affects almost 1 in 5 white women over the age of thirty. Red veins on the face, sensitive skin, spots; All of these are symptoms of this skin condition. But there is some good news.

Antibiotics

Although we know relatively little about Rosacea, treatment with a course of antibiotics appears, in many cases, to be successful. But there are also, of course, catches. In the US there has been an antibiotic with a lower dose of doxycycline (with less than half) on the market for some time, and with a controlled release which appears to be just as effective as the outdated high dose tablet. And so therefore you have less chance of side effects and developing a resistance.

Good news: also in the Netherlands!

We have had to wait a while but, since a few months ago, it is now available in the Netherlands. It is known on the market here as Efracea. Many Doctors don’t yet know about it, so you can just inform them! You can get the best result by combining this medicine with a local antibiotic (as in a cream, for example, metroninizol) and by using very mild skincare products. It also helps to find out what aggravates your rosacea; for some that is alcohol, for others spicy food or changes in temperature. So keeping a diary would be a good idea!
