Skin Cancer: Check Your Skin
There is an extremely good website which shows you how to examine your own skin for irregular or malignant moles. The site is www.myskincheck.nl. I recommend everyone with an increased risk of skin cancer to look at this website.
Malignant moles
The chance of malignant moles appearing is above average in people:
• with white skin and blue eyes,
• with red hair and pale skin,
• who have suffered with sunburn in childhood,
• who have more than 150 moles on their skin,
• where more than one member of their immediate family has had a melanoma,
• who have more than one large or irregular mole on their skin.
In short: this applies to a large section of the Dutch population.
The amount of melanoma cases is still on the increase in the Netherlands. The earlier a melanoma is found the greater the chance is of making a full recovery!
