Sample Products; Perfect for Trying Out!

Research has revealed that when people use cosmetic products, around 40 to 50% have allergic reactions. Finding a suitable product can be very difficult for people with a real allergy towards cosmetics. So a sample is a good idea.

Test a sample before buying

But fortunately there is often a sample available of a cosmetic product. My advice is, if possible, firstly to test the product by applying it onto the inside of your forearm to see if you have a reaction to it. It would be a waste if you have to throw newly bought cosmetic products in the bin!

Irritating substances?

In order to help you with purchasing suitable products for sensitive skin I have placed a list of ingredients that you should avoid on my blog. It is well known that many people react with these substances. Perfume is really the number one allergen. So avoid one with perfume!

Unfortunately you can’t take the above list as the gospel truth. A reaction is still possible from a product which does not contain any of the above ingredients. People with a cosmetic allergy can also react to several other ingredients. Unless you do a very extensive allergy test (patch test), it is impossible to know exactly what you are reacting to.

I agree with the opinion of Dr. Baumann in her book The Skin type Solution: “Whatever your skin type, due to the high rate of people who experience topical skin allergies, there is no way to be absolutely certain that a given product is right for you, without patch testing.”
