Happy Food, a diet to make your skin happy too (part 1)

Happy food, the title alone generates happiness don’t you agree? There is a lot to tell you about this subject. So much so, that I’ve decided to make a series out of it. There are actually five parts in total! But let me start at the beginning…

Feel good about yourself

Happy gut=happy skin. After reading several scientific studies I am a firm believer in this. The idea has everything to do with the communication route between your gut, your skin and your brain. And, in fact, that communication route runs in all directions throughout your body. There are enough examples. Many people with skin complaints do not feel confident about themselves; who are sometimes really unhappy. That is perhaps not surprising in a world where so much revolves around flawless photographs and beauty ideals. On the other hand, that unhappy feeling can also be related to internal processes in your body, because nutrition and your gut also influence how you feel.

A look at Mediterranean cuisine

Now you may, of course, be thinking about that box of chocolates which gives you instant pleasure. Or a large portion of chips, a box of patisseries or a packet of crisps. But I am not talking about that type of guilty pleasure for the moment. I am talking about food that benefits you in the long term. For now I will refer to it as happy food. And I automatically arrive at Mediterranean cuisine. That means a diet with lots of fish, gorgeous vegetables, delicious tomatoes and olive oil. In other words: a diet with plenty of of omega 3 fatty acids, vitamin D, antioxidants and dietary fibre. Are you feeling hungry yet? Good, because I am going to tell you a lot about it in the coming weeks. And I’ve got recipes as well.

Oily fish and sauerkraut

By the way, I don’t just cover Mediterranean cooking, I also include a plate of oily fish as they make in the Scandinavian countries. And we will go into more depth about sauerkraut and other fermented products. Just stay tuned! Because I believe that this can contribute towards beautiful skin.
