Golden milk for skin complaints?

Healers in oriental medicine have been prescribing golden milk for skin complaints for hundreds of years. The ‘medicine’ in this milk is turmeric, which also gives the drink that lovely golden colour. Does this spice, however, really help skin problems?

Potentially beneficial for the gut

I’ve looked into the literature, but the fact is scientists don’t actually know. A drawback of turmeric is that your body has difficulty absorbing it, making it most unlikely that this spice can have any positive effect on your body or skin. Adding black pepper to the drink may help with absorption. If turmeric does help though, it could be because it has a beneficial influence on the gut. Could turmeric possibly help the skin via this route? There is still no definitive answer, so we just have to find it out for ourselves (see the recipe below)!

Delicious in the evening

Golden milk is super to drink, especially at bedtime, because it is so relaxing. Even more so if the milk is warm. So, if you would like to have a good night’s sleep then perhaps it is worth trying? That is one thing, we know for sure,s which is good for your skin!
