I am naturally very thrilled with all the products that I have, over the last few years, created for my skincare range. Although I was completely overwhelmed by the many super reactions to my Vitamin A Serum. This week I am launching yet another new product. And to let you into a secret, this is sort of [...]

My children have a small bottle of Yakult with their breakfast each morning. I initiated this routine after a fascinating reading by a Paediatrician about the advantageous effect of probiotics. My only concern is that the contents of the bottle of Yakult are not quite the same as that tested in the resea[...]

An accident in the kitchen, falling off your bike, or that huge spot on your chin that you just cant leave alone
Your skin protects your body against external damage, but sometimes it isnt strong enough. And then it is important to know what you can do to help your skin heal. For scars are awful and p[...]

The gloves and scarves have been recalled from the attic and the car windscreen has to be scraped in the mornings and then we all reach for the lip balm. And that is not always wise. Because you can turn, in no time, from an occasional user into an outright lip balm addict.
Does this story sound famili[...]

I often think back to my time in the Dermatology unit at the Sophia Childrens Hospital in Rotterdam. It was heart breaking to see the children covered from top to toe in ointment and bandages. They were in a lot of discomfort from the itching and had to wear special gloves to stop them from scratching t[...]

Isnt it just awful when you are running late, you take one last look in the mirror and you notice lots of tiny bits of peel on those beautifully glossed lips! And if your lipstick is red then there is no escaping the drama
I am now going to tell you how this happens but, far more importantly, how you c[...]

Every holiday I tell myself I'm not going to think about work, but it isn't easy... Last week our family spent a couple of days in the Ardennes in a tent. It was Autumn half term, beautiful weather and my idea was that it would be good to let our children see that all the daily luxuries they have around them really shouldn't be taken for granted.
In order not to throw them in at the deep end (and a bit of self interest too) I'd found a tent with a wood burner, bedstead for the children, oil lamps and cold running water. Sounds very romantic, but with a temperature of -4°C , 5 hot water bottles, two duvets and thermal socks, it is difficult not to[...]

Last week there was an article in YES 'Don't give scars a chance'. I also receive a lot of questions about this on my blog, so am adding to this piece.
Scars: a very brief summary
If you have scarring you can go in the sun after a few weeks. When you do apply lots of sun cream onto the scar or even cover the scar area up with clothing. A scar will be sensitive to sunlight for at least a year! If you don't take any precautions then there is a big chance[...]

Cosmeceuticals and derma pharmaceuticals. They look like jumbled words that don't really mean much. Yet the terminologies are used daily by specialists.
The products stated above are, just like cosmetics, mainly meant for applying onto the skin. Though not always very significant, there is certainly a difference between them.
- Cosmetic products: are aimed at cleaning the skin, adorning, protecting or keeping it in good condition. They [...]

I have written before about certain ingredients which are best avoided. You can check if these ingredients are in your product by looking at the ingredients list (also known as the INCI list). But I realise that for many, this is like reading "Double Dutch".
But help is here! If you want to see how much damaging substances your product contains, you can consult the database of 'Skin Deep'. This is an enormous (American) database listing more than 50,000 products! Gigantic! It indicates, on a scale from 0 to 10, per product, if they contain damagin[...]
