And all of a sudden its spring. Oh how Ive been looking forward to it. It feels as though the cold dark days become more challenging every year. If I can, I try and escape the cold winter briefly for a holiday to a faraway tropical destination with my family. Great! Sadly, my skin is considerably less [...]

Super products are allowed to be seen. Thats why I like to have my beauty products on display in the bathroom. But be aware that direct sunlight can have a negative effect on cosmetics, particularly creams and lotions. Heat makes active ingredients instable. And you dont, of course, want your skin to m[...]

It is already a few years ago that I met Marianne van der Gaag and Freek Koster of Touché Models. We started talking about our work as well as other things and we just clicked. It happens sometimes with people! Although, at the time, we didnt have any concrete ideas, we did agree that, at some point, we[...]

Vitamin E miracle or marketing?
It is no longer a great secret that anti-oxidants are an essential part of my skincare products. Everybody is, of course, familiar with vitamin C, which I have written about previously in my blog. But another heaven sent gift is vitamin E. Quite some miracles are being at[...]

I regularly give interviews about sun protection. And I am incredibly happy that I get the opportunity, as the more people that know how to protect themselves in the sun the better. Not only, of course, to prevent skin ageing, but also to stop the explosive increase in the number of people with skin cancer.
Did you know that more people die each year of skin cancer than road traffic accidents? Strange then isn't it that we learn how to behave in traffic, but we don't really know how we need to rub it in. Seeing as my blog "The quest for the perfect sun cream" is the most looked at of all my blogs and that [...]

Last Autumn, in need of some quality time with my husband, we escaped for a few days to Marrakech without the kids. After taking in the atmosphere of the medina: the snake charmers, the rattling of the donkey carts and the calls of the street vendors, we were ready for a day of relaxation and natural beauty.
Journey to Morocco
Up to the Atlas mountains! On the way we came across a number of women's co-operatives who were producing argan Oil. With my interest in cosmetics we decided to go to a factory to see how this was done. The room was packed with women sitting on the floor and peeling nuts, roasting the[...]

Again a complex term: nutricosmetics. This is the collective name for nutrients which have a beneficial effect on the skin. In simple terms: by using these substances your skin improves. In particular anti-oxidants such as vitamin C and E are mentioned.
At the moment these are the only nutrients which are proven to work. But there is a large group of chemicals still being investigated which could possibly be of importance.
Good or not?
In the medical world it is well known that a deficiency in nutrients can cause skin problems. Pellagra results from a[...]

Yesterday I wrote that putting anti-oxidants in cosmetic products is the 'in thing'. But do they also work? I can say, without a doubt, that there is enough scientific evidence that anti-oxidants which are used in cosmetic products are able to eliminate free radicals. Or at least that's what they do in t[...]

For years I've been interested in skin and skin care products. My wish is to help people to achieve a healthy and lovely skin, by using a sort of 'Inconvenient truth' about skincare.
My interest in this originally began when I was searching for suitable products for my own skin. This turned out not to b[...]
