And all of a sudden it’s spring. Oh how I’ve been looking forward to it. It feels as though the cold dark days become more challenging every year. If I can, I try and escape the cold winter briefly for a holiday to a faraway tropical destination with my family. Great! Sadly, my skin is considerably less [...]

Spots, bumps, chapped red skin, itching; half of the people in the Netherlands regularly suffer from this. And the industry has conveniently dived on this. The shelves are full of soothing creams and ointments for sensitive skin.

That we suffer massively from sensitive skin is not so surprising if you think that the Netherlands woman uses on average between 9 and 12 skincare products per day and doesn’t actually know what she should be aware of when buying a product. The latter became painfully clear to me last week when analysin[...]

It always happens; your skin is smooth and radiant for weeks and then you wake up on that all important day with a pimple on your nose. I'm a bit later than normal with the piece for the blog this time, because I've been away! Last week I attended the yearly congress of the American Association of Dermatology (AAD) in New Orleans.

Tina Alster, Zoe Draelos and Leslie Baumann! I always try to be here, because if you have attended this congress you see at first hand all the latest technology and the ins and outs within dermatology. At this time topics such as rare skin fungi and tropical skin diseases are not my thing, but when it c[...]

It is not easy convincing people that creams cannot get rid of existing wrinkles. No matter how expensive a cream is, we can do no more than make fine lines (temporarily) less noticeable. As yet, there is only convincing evidence that vitamin A acid (available on prescription), after prolonged use, has a somewhat rejuvenating effect.

Fortunately, this is not really so bad, as there are many ways in which we can improve wrinkles safely and effectively. So give up the "anti-wrinkle cream battle" and realise that in general the products with "wonder ingredients" for wrinkles are not the best. Buy your cosmetic products for a completel[...]
